Despite having periodic health examinations abroad, only when he arrived in Vinmec Ha Long did Jose Viera Lopez find out he had been suffering from pulmonary infarction, with 50% mortality rate without timely treatment.
A dangerous disease detected from back pain.
Despite his nature of work, which required much traveling, Jose Viera Lopez (55 y/o, Spanish) kept up his habit of periodic health examination and daily exercises. Arriving in Ha Long in October last year, he showed up regularly at the gym, swimming pools and yoga sessions. Because of that, he had a lot of faith in his health.
Mr. Lopez, however, started to have worries when the back pain s arrived while he was on business trips to Da Nang in September 2017. The sonography of pleural space and CT scan of the chest showed an opaque lesion in the lower lobe of his right lung. Master and Doctor Do Xuan Chien (Medicine Department, Vinmec Ha Long) along with his team, suggested that this was a complication of lower limb varicose vein that the patient once had.
The findings of MSCT 640 of the pulmonary artery showed that Mr. Lopez had pulmonary infarction, but fortunately in the early stages. Aside from back pain s , the patient did not have any other typical symptoms of the diseases such as coughing, shortness of breath, chest pain s . He himself did have regular exams abroad but did not detect any early signs of the disease or related diseases. In His medical record in Spain never showed the same results.
After his visit in Vinmec Halong, Mr. Lopez was very surprised to find out that he had lung infarction.
He fortunately was detected in the early stages and had timely treatment.
Dr. Xuan Chien stated : “Lung infarcton is a rare and easily missed disease, as it can be confused with other cardiovascular diseases and be hard to detect in early stages. This is a very serious diseases, resulting in blood clots floating to the lungs. Blood clots forming in deep veins of the body, starting out in the lower limbs, are the main cause of lung infarction. The mortality of the condition is up to 50% without timely detection and treatment.”

In Vinmec Ha Long, Mr. Lopez was treated in Intensive Care Unit with the newest international recommendations regarding lung infarction. His regimen included anticoagulant Heparin injected through Target-controlled system, with the dosage adjusted every 4 hours according to test results.
After 7 days, Jose Viera Lopez recovered well, was discharged from hospital and would continue to use anticoagulants for the next 6 months.
At the end of November 2017, upon returning to Vinmec Ha Long for his third periodic exam, he continued with the prescription according to plan, and his blood clots were predicted to disappear completely after the treatment period. Knowing he will soon say farewell to this serious disease, Mr. Lopez and his wife were quite happy.
