The opening of Vinmec’s new digital diagnostic pathology center was confirmed by Prof. & Dr. Nguyen Thanh Liem, CEO of Vinmec International Hospital, at the workshop “The role of Digital Pathology in diagnosis and treatment of cancer”, held at Vinmec on February 6th.
Professor Kouki Inai, Honorary Professor of University of Hiroshima (Japan) and the current Director of Hiroshima Diagnostic Pathology Center were the distinguished guest workshop presenters.

Digital pathology is a new concept and regarded as one of the most promising recent advancements of diagnostic medicine. Instead of managing pathology specimen slides, observing and analyzing them under a microscope, digital pathology promotes archival record storage and more accurate results. In addition to improved data storage, digital pathology promotes better data transfer, enabling internet sharing for consultation. Along with its other advantages, digital pathology significantly improves the quality of diagnostic pathology by creating a consultation system between experts. At the same time, digital pathology provides for diagnostic pathology in areas where there is no pathologist.
Digital Pathology is now being utilized in many medically developed countries. As one of Japan’s leading experts in the field of digital pathology, Prof. Kouki Inai has 35 years of experience in the field and is pioneering the application of digital technology in diagnostic pathology with the aim of sharing experiences and managing cancer more comprehensively. Prof. Inai has helped many developing countries create their own screening programs. He has expanded the diagnosis and treatment of cancer through educational programs, training seminars, implementation assistance and international collaboration in Cambodia, China, Taiwan and Portugal. Prof. Kouku Inai’s presentation, “The role of Digital Pathology in diagnosis and treatment of cancer,” at Vinmec International Hospital showcases Vinmec’s deep commitment to effective and advanced technology, as well as demonstrating a dedication to cooperation.

Throughout the 150-minute workshop, topics relating to digital pathology such as Pathology and Cytology Tests, along with first step achievements in the treatment of cancer in Vinmec, were presented by Prof. Kouki Inai, Prof. & Dr. Trinh Tuan Dung – Chairman of Vietnam Pathology-Cellular Association and Dr. Doan Trung Hiep – Head of Radiotherapy Center of Vinmec’s Oncology Department.

During the workshop, Prof. Nguyen Thanh Liem affirmed the importance of digital pathology in diagnosis and treatment of diseases, especially cancer, since it is regarded as the gold standard for confirmed diagnosis and evidence-based treatment. Prof. Liem also emphasized the importance of utilizing the most advanced techniques in order to provide better care and treatment for patients. Japan is home to some of the world’s greatest medical advancements. Japan has exemplary medical experts and utilizes many advanced techniques, in addition to sharing many societal and cultural similarities with Vietnam. It is Vinmec’s conviction that cooperation with Japan is a rightful and neccessary step to bring Vietnamese healthcare in line with developed world standards.
