Thien Tam (Kind Heart) Fund and Vinmec International Hospital have decided to donate 50 billion VND to implement a free health check program at Vinmec International Hospital. The program is aimed at providing healthcare to poor and underprivileged children, the elderly, families of war martyrs, veterans, ex-soldiers, war youth volunteers and those who contributed to the revolution.

The charitable health check program, which will be offered between January and June 2012, comprises of two main stages: screening check-ups from mid-January to the end of March and surgeries from April to the end of June, 2012.

The first stage, the health checks, was divided into several phases and took place in a number of primary schools within inner-city Hanoi from mid-January to the end of March, 2012.The general health check for pupils was specifically designed to detect childhood diseases such as as refractive erros, scoliosis disabilities and diseases related to ear-nose-throat.

As well as health checks for school children, this initial stage also included examinations, blood tests, biochemical tests, scans and diagnosis for the elderly. Screening was carried out to check for common ailments of the elderly, such as lipid disorders, diabetes, gouts.

The second stage offers free surgeries, including heart surgery for both children and adults, smile surgery (cleft lip and palate repair), eye surgery (crystalline lens replacement) for the elderly, orthopedic surgery (paralyzed muscle, cyllosis,  joint and spinal replacement…), bronchocelesurgery and other services.

All the health checks and surgeries are being carried out at Vinmec International Hospital (in Minh Khai, Hanoi) and give patients a chance to benefit from the five-star international standard check-ups, treatment and care offered at Vinmec.

“It’s also a practical activity in the peak month we do for  the poor and “Open arms” activity thatare launched by Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Frontier”, said Mr Bui Dinh Dinh, Chairman of Thien Tam Fund.

Vinmec International Hospital was selected to implement the health checks to give the recipients – those who made a  contribution to the revolution, as well as  poor and underprivileged children – a chance to enjoy a high level  of healthcare offered by this five-star hospital.

According to Mr Dinh, Thien Tam Fund hopes to receive support and assistance from the government and authorities, humanitarian organizations and press agencies in the search for appropriate recipients, as well as in monitoring program activities. Their goal is to gain the experience necessary to continue to implement similar programs in the future.

Thien Tam Fund is a non-profit organization set up and financed by Vingroup. Since its establishment in 2006, the Fund has implemented several practical and effective social and charitable programs. These include providing care for the mothers of Vietnam’s heroes, underprivileged households, helping poor provinces, supporting those affected by natural disasters, as well as community development and cultural and education projects. All this at a cost of nearly 700 billion VND.
