Although operating for only 3 years, Vinmec International Hospital has attracted a growing number of patients, locally and abroad. It is the hospital of choice for many foreign doctors and experts who choose to work in Vietnam.
Vinmec International Hospital, through collaboration and effective participation, has contributed to and actively advanced the development of Vietnamese healthcare, including private healthcare services.
Sharing workload with government-owned hospitals
Since 2012, Vingroup, the leading private economic group in Vietnam, has officially participated in high-quality healthcare through the operation of Vinmec International Hospital in Hanoi. In response to the government’s policy of socializing state medical activities, Vinmec has helped reduce the workload for public healthcare and increased the options for high-quality healthcare of Vietnamese people.
After only 3 years in operation, with 32 specialized departments and 3 support centers, Vinmec has attracted a growing number of patients for specialized treatment, traditionally exclusively performed by leading public hospitals, such as cardiology, oncology, neurology and metabolic diseases. People and medical experts throughout Vietnam have increased awareness of Vinmec due to the hospital’s reputation of successfully treating difficult cases. One such example is a boy with a giant tumor on the face – Le Trung Tuan (16 years old, in Thanh Hoa). He had 2 surgeries to remove the tumor and reshape his face. Many other patients who were returned from Singapore were successfully treated in Vinmec, such as a girl with cerebral palsy Nguyen Le Nhat Lam (8 years old, in Tay Ninh). Her “magical” revival after stem cell transplantation has brought hope to many children at home and abroad with the same disease.

Vinmec has invested in the most advanced modern equipment for the assisted reproduction center in order to improve the success rate of each in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. |
The complex techniques previously available only in the leading public hospitals now are conducted routinely at Vinmec. In fact, certain l aparoscopy pediatric techniques at Vinmec have been studied and applied by our colleagues in the U.S., France, Italia, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Taiwan.
Vinmec leads Vietnam in possessing the most modern and synchronized worldwide equipment system, ensuring environmentally friendly, effective and safe treatment. Vinmec has impressed local medical society with its state of the art medical equipment equivalent to the world’s leading hospitals, such as radiotherapy linear accelerator Varian Clinac iX , CT simulation , endoscopic operating room equipment OR1 (KARL STORZ), stem cell technology room with GMP standard, storage system for umbilical cord blood stem cells Bio-Archive (Thermogenesis), etc.
With impressive modern facilities, Vinmec has been able to gather a team of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and therapists with exemplary expertise, experience, and dedication to the profession. Vinmec is also the choice of dozens of experts and doctors from developed countries like France, the U.S., Italia and others to work and exchange experience regularly. As a natural result, the number of patients seeking healthcare and counselling at Vinmec has increased continuously over the past 3 years. In 2014, Vinmec welcomed hundreds of thousands of outpatients, tens of thousands inpatients and performed 10,000 surgeries.
In order to provide continued high-quality, reasonable cost healthcare services at the regional and international level, in the next 5 years Vinmec expects to develop a system of 10 Vinmec hospitals across the country. The Vinmec developmental strategy of improving Vietnamese healthcare quality also includes a most ambitious undertaking: the establishment of Vinmec University of Medicine in 2015, with the first class commencing in 2016.
Trust built on the foundation of quality
The success of Vinmec clearly confirms the reputation of a young private hospital that dares to think of and act for innovation. In the 10-year journey of privatizing healthcare in Vietnam, there have been several stereotypes showing preference when comparing the professional quality and services of private versus public healthcare providers. Reality has shown that each model has its own particular strengths. The effort of those with ambition to develop the private healthcare sector has been validated in the past 10 years: With appropriate policy, Vietnam undoubtedly can have hospitals with quality that parallels regional and worldwide standards. The establishment and performance of this model also stimulates a healthy competition among healthcare systems, contributes to medical care gap reduction, and improves the overall healthcare quality for the people.
Striving to be a quality service model, the medical achievements that Vinmec has accomplished provides a most convincing affirmation for private healthcare. Investment in key elements is the “key” for Vinmec to confidently and powerfully develop to the same level of other leading public hospitals throughout the country. In particular, it is Vinmec’s goal that many of their specialization departments will achieve regional and international levels and successfully implement the originally established mission of “Great connection, Great care” for Vietnamese people.
